This course provides students with a foundation in the two basic types of graphics software, vector (drawing) and raster (painting/photography). Topics include integrating traditional design, color, and compositional principles with contemporary digital tools. Students will work on a variety of digital projects involving drawing, design, typography, photographic manipulation, and animation.
Technology Covered:
Students learn the basics of Adobe CC: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Tools include storyboarding, sketching, developing ideas into digital format, and more! Students graduate from this class with a professional resume, portfolio or animation reel for their next career step.
Teaching Philosophy
Having taught beginner and intermediate digital media classes since 2015, I realized that one size doesn't fit all. Some students are interested in animation and character design, and some students want to edit photos and create digital layouts. That's why I use a project-based, personalized approach in my class. I also use differentiated learning and UDL and active learning best practices to make it meaningful and fun!
You will find a variety of final projects here, from artist portfolios to resumes and animation reels!
